[Posted late -- sorry. Melody just told me I sent out Week 26 as Week 25.]
Happy Fettis-dagen (or fet-Tisdagen)!!!!
This past Tuesday in Sweden well over half of the population probably purchased a little baked good called a Semla. In an old Swedish translation of the Bible, the manna from heaven was described as tasting like Semlor med honung (semla with honey). What it is is a sweet bun made with cardamon, then they cut it in half and spread almond paste (almost like a rough unfinished marzipan) on the lower bun and fill it with cream. Often it's an almond flavored cream, or vanilla cream, but we had just regular cream. We ate it the traditional way: in warm milk. It was super good! The tradition is to keep buying one every Tuesday between the end of Lent and Easter day. The name of the day is now Fettis-dagen or Fet-Tisdagen. Both are technically correct, but down here it's the first one. Fett means fat, and when you add -is to something it's hard to describe what it does in English. Dagis is a daycare, Kompis is a close good friend, Loppis is a yardsale... It's kind of a party suffix I guess. So basically this is the day to break your diet, and get a little fat.
We did a lot of tracting this week. It was rough. We started out by a fun YSA FHE activity, which went really well, and we talked about keeping a journal. Then on Tuesday we got dropped by our family history buddy (who was supposed to be meeting with us and a member that night), which was pretty discouraging to both us and the member. Wednesday we pulled out a powerhouse day, and got tons of work done, taught random people, and got two new investigators. We had a fun district meeting, with our new district leader who's pretty awesome! He's very strict on obedience, and wants us to have lots of unity in our district, which is hard since our district is spread out pretty far (2 hour drive between each of us and none of us have cars except for the Delgado's). It's going to be a fun time with them though.
We played football again on Saturday with the same group, and I'm getting better, but I can definitely feel those 25 extra pounds when I'm running for an hour. We helped out a friend of ours' who's had a rough time lately, and got some great things done this week. That night though our two new investigators missed our follow-up appointment. They weren't home, so we'll be trying to get back in touch with them this week. Church was pretty good, but nothing crazy special happened that I can think to write about. It sure rains a lot here. I saw the sun twice this week. It was nice. Soon enough the sun should be coming out almost every day. It's really cloudy though, so I'm not sure if it will ever completely change down here.
Keep up all the great work wherever you are! Sounds like things are going great! Love you all!
Mvh,
