Vecka Sextio [Week 60]

Wow, what happened to this week!?

Time flies fast when you work hard, especially in the service of the Lord.  This week was interesting.  We had a lot of appointments set up, and most of them didn't fall through.  We kept seeing members all over the place this week though, which was really fun, because usually it was while we were teaching someone, or talking to someone on the street.  So they know just as well as we do that we are working hard.

On Wednesday we had a rather unique experience.  There is a less-active here who went less-active shortly after being baptized, and upon visiting him the first time he said he loves our church, but feels that he has "graduated" from our church.  So this time we read 2 Ne. 31 with him and talked about enduring to the end, and he said that the scripture was telling him that he needed to come to church.  So he said he would, and then went on to explain how he feels he should become a pastor.  We explained to him that the first step he has to take from where he's at to get there is to come to church every week, and go to gospel principles [Sunday School class] with us.  He agreed, and that's the first time anyone has had success with him in the last while.

Thursday was rough because we had some miscommunication, so we ended up showing up to two lessons that our investigators weren't at.  District meeting was good though.  We have a great new district leader here.  He's doing a really great job and focusing on teaching us by the Spirit since number-wise our district is one of the highest in the zone, and seems to be doing outstanding, but we all have our own unique problems to work on, and the Spirit is the only one who can teach 12 people how to solve 12 problems from one lesson.

We helped our branch throw a Halloween party, and that was another big success.  We had about 50 people show up, which was really good, including some investigators.  I was assigned to be a part of the "Fiskdamm" (the fishing game where you hook something on the rod for the kids).  The branch really had a great time there.

On Sunday we had a really cool "Second Harvest" moment.  In the dedicatory prayer for the land of Sweden for missionary work it says two things that I'd like to highlight.  The first is that the members coordinating with the missionaries will be a key, and Sweden will become an example of members and missionaries working together in bringing thousands of souls into the church.  The other point is that those who have previously had contact with the Church will become interested, and become converted and stay active and strong like never before.  On Sunday we had a lesson about how to be a light, and the members basically were going on and on saying, "the missionaries are a light, we need to be more like them.  We need to be doing this better, and this..."  Every member was actively participating and seeking to be a better instrument in the work of salvation.  We even had members asking us to take them along on lessons we have (which we do, whenever we get a planned time to meet).   The members here are excited, and want to see us move forward and grow.  After dinner that night with a member family, we were about to stay for a fireside, because we realized we'd only have 30 min of proselyting time if we left right then.  So we thought, and decided to show the Lord our faith and love for Him by going out tracting for those 30 min.  While out, the first door we knocked on was a guy who had met with missionaries before, but it had been a while, and he said, "I don't think I'm so interested in it anymore."  We invited him to read, and he happily accepted, and was really a good guy and positive.  The rest of the floor was gone, so we went to the next floor and knocked on the door that was in the same place as the first door, and a lady answered and asked us to come back so she could have time to listen to our message.  So we set up a time to come back, knocked the rest of the floor, no answers.  Then we went to the last floor, and knocked the same door.  Another man answered who had been in contact with the Church before, and was really happy to see us and talk to us, and said he might come to church, and agreed to reading Enos with his wife.  He said he really liked what he knew of our church, but didn't know too much, but believes in God and Christ.  He's a good guy.  That took up our 30 minutes, and was the best Sunday I've had on my mission that I can think of right now.  It was wonderful.

The Church is true.  God is hastening His work.  Do all you can to help it move along!

Mvh,
