Vecka Sjuttio [Week 70]

Hejsan!

What a week!  If any of you has been following the weather, you will notice that this week we had three days that were especially chilly.  It didn't get above 0 F (-18 C).  And as luck would have it, no one could meet those days, and we didn't have very many apartment buildings to knock.  It is a unique experience to feel the snot and hair in your nostrils freeze, and see your jacket frost over, as well as your scarf turn white, and all your hair starts turning white.  The good part is I didn't get too cold.  My companion didn't have as nice of hand, foot, or legwear as me though, so we had to play things smart so we didn't freeze.

Monday was a busy day.  We said "Goodbye" to an investigator as he moved to California, and met with a great family that night.  They are doing well, however the work schedule for the mom got changed so they didn't make it to Church.  On Tuesday we got interviewed after teaching some people, and the lessons went really well!  Interviews were also good.  It was fun to see President and Sister Beckstrand again, and hear about how the office is doing.  We met with one of our investigators that night as well that is doing really well.  We had no clue what to teach him, then we had a thought to teach him about the Godhead and each of their roles.  That was what he needed!

Wednesday we went on splits!  I was with Elder Goffe, and we had a lot planned out for the day.  We first went and taught a new investigator who wanted to serve God and make people happy.  He said if someone wanted three meals a day to be happy, he'd eat two and give them the third and that would make him happy.  We committed him to being baptized on the 20th of February.  We then went and worked our way to our next lesson.  Since it was below -15 we couldn't really use our phone to communicate (electronics freeze up when it's that cold).  We taught another great lesson, with the other elders, and then went to another lesson with some immigrants.  They were really cool, but sadly he is moving to Italy, so we won't be able to meet with him anymore.  We walked from his place, 45 minutes to our next lesson, and got there earlier than we planned, and since it was -18 C and we were thinking it would be a little warmer, our feet were freezing, as well as everything else, so we did a swing-by, and were happy to get let in.  We taught that family a good lesson, then went to teach another family, and that lesson was quite the struggle, but they felt the Spirit and will read the Book of Mormon.

Thursday we had district meeting and set goals as a district to show our faith.  This was the first day of extreme cold.  We went to an area that was mostly apartments, and worked hard there.  We didn't have tons of success, but we did get in contact with one of our referrals, and met another guy who wanted to meet up and talk.  Friday was another cold day, but we did weekly planning, so a couple hours of cold were taken away, and we had a lesson planned out that night, so we thought we would escape the cold.  Then the lesson got cancelled.  So we got cold.  Saturday we had lots set up, but everything but our first appointment and a baptismal interview got cancelled, so we spent the entire day besides 2 hours out in the -20 C cold.  I got to interview the Sisters' baptismal candidates though, and they are both really incredible people.  Definitely prepared to be baptized.  They have strong faith.  One of our members also finally got his residency permit here, which was really exciting!  Because of that we got invited to a dinner with another member family to celebrate it.  It was a great week!  This week is going to be faith week.  We planned out activities to help us exercise our faith each day.  It is going to be hard, but it will be incredible!  The work is going forward incredibly well.  It is so amazing to see the change the gospel brings in the lives of people.

Have a great week!
