[This is a week late. We didn't hear from Elder Liddle last week. But here's what he said this morning: "I sent this, but it must not have gone through." Ah, well. Still, I love technology, always and forever. -- The Editor]
Hejsan!
This week has been really wonderful! We had a lot of fun things happen! We have been spending more time down in Hudiksvall recently, and it's been really great! We taught one of the member families down there, and the father has been struggling with his testimony since the Church seems to have forgotten him down there. We really made a breakthrough with him this time and he's reading the Book of Mormon again, and things are looking really good down there. We also set up a lesson with a guy we found in our phone listed as a former investigator, so we set up an appointment and met up with him. He's really awesome as well, and committed to reading the Book of Mormon and wanted us to come back on Saturday when we were out there again. And Saturday out there was even more busy. We committed our friend we found in our phone to baptism for the 23rd of April, and then taught Stellan and Eva who are getting baptized on the 15th of May. Then we went and did some positive tracting before our dinner appointment where we talked with a person we've been working with who has gone from 3 packs of cigarettes a day when we first met her to now less than 1 pack per day! That's incredible progress! She's working on getting off as soon as she can and is paying tithing and doing all she can to be active in the Church. It's so wonderful to see the incredible people that are here in Hudiksvall.
We also got to go on splits this week after a good district meeting in Swedish (that was fun to do)! I was with Elder Luke this time, who I went on splits with while in the office. We taught a few people in our area, and the lessons went really well. We got one lady from telling us that she's an atheist and would never become a Mormon to committed to reading and praying. Quite interesting how the Spirit works on people. We also met a very prepared woman who is also committed to reading and praying. She's been through a lot, but knows that God answers prayers and will answer her prayers about the Book of Mormon and about getting baptized into the Church. Don't ever be afraid to commit someone to baptism in the first lesson with them. If you don't have a target, it doesn't matter which direction you shoot, and the chances are very low that two people will shoot for the exact same thing without a common target. So establish that by committing them to baptism in the first lesson.
Sunday is always a wonderful day, especially on the mission. We had a wonderful block of Church meetings and got to sit in with the young men for their lesson on choices. We learned from 2 Nephi 2 about what we need in order to make a choice, and how rules aren't boundaries, but give us freedom. We are free to choose freedom and life or captivity and death. We then took that lesson, and applied it to one of our investigators that night with our district president's wife. The lesson went really well, and we even tied it in to her favorite story so far from the Book of Mormon: Lehi's dream. It's all about choices, and we receive the knowledge of how to make good choices from prophets and scriptures and even the Spirit. The law is the path, the rod of iron tells us where the path goes. And when we rely on the rod, we will never go astray.
Keep doing good things for the right reasons,
Äldste Liddle
